Art: Through a Lens Darkly: Black Photographers and the Emergence of a People

Inspired by Deborah Willis's book, Reflections in Black, Thomas Allen Harris's film "Through A Lens Darkly" is a riveting documentary on African-American photography, and the history of how photography played a significant role in both negating and affirming blacks in American culture. White photographers (of course) did the negating and demeaned African-Americans through racist imagery. While black photographers used the camera to affirm and define African Americans and their culture. The documentary features artists and photographers like Renee Cox. Renee's Yo Mama's Pieta picture (above) of Mary cradling Jesus's body, is Renee's way showing a representation of African-Americans, that has often been excluded in biblical photographs. In the film, Mr. Harris also adds a personal touch by sharing and using  candid photos of his family as a resource in this compelling and what we feel is a must see documentary. Music: Nicki Minaj Premieres New Song "Bed Of Lies" At The 2014 MTV EMAs + Video

The Queen of rap, Nicki Minaj, was slaying and hosting the MTV EMA's last night, but she didn't stop there, the 'Super Bass' rapper surprised fans with a performance of her new song "Bed of Lies" ft. Skylar Grey. On the song Nicki raps about a relationship getting so bad after fame and success, that shes contemplated overdosing. This record is really personal (might shed a thug tear) and probably the most open song we've heard from Nicki thus far, and it definitely sounds like confirmation to whats been looking a a breakup between Nicki Minaj and rumored boyfriend/ hype man Sarfaree. This is our song! I mean who hasn't felt like this at some point in their life. We couldn't wait for this video to be released. It's something about a visual that gives songs that extra layer. We have seen pics from the video shoot, so we knew the video would have a football theme and Kanye would be Big Sean's coach, but we didn't know the back story or how it would fit the song, but now it's finally here so check out the video below

Listen: Remy Ma Drops Her First Post-Prison Mixtape "I’m Around"

Finally!! we've been waiting forever (literally and figuratively lol) for the Return of Remy Ma. If you don't know by now, rapper Remy Ma was convicted of intentional assault back in 2008. After serving a six-year sentence, Remy was recently released from Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women. That is a long time, especially in this business where everything is so face paced now. 

Those who don't remember, Remy Ma was well on her way to becoming a huge female rapper and to some of us, she already was/is, but now Remy is back with her new mixtape titled "I'm Around". We can't wait to see how she plans to insert herself back into the industry, because this is a very different music industry then it was before she left. We think she's already off to a great start by  releasing new music for the fans. We can only hope that her transition back into the music industry goes a lot smoother than rap legend Lil Kim's post-prison return. Happy Birthday Willow Smith!! + Stream her new her latest EP "3"

Today is Willow's 14th Birthday!! To help us celebrate,Willow surprised us with 3 new tracks off her ep. titled "3". The ep features tracks "8", "9" feat. SZA, and "Flowers." It has been amazing to watch Willow grow into to the young lady she has become today, and she's only 14! and way more mature than most people twice her age, so we can't wait to see what she does next. We love the sound and direction shes starting to go in as an artist. Her development and her growth is really starting to stand out among the "elite" in this industry. As we said before, Willow is one of those artists, that refuse to let society use her as a canvas to paint a certain picture of how "normal" is suppose to be, look, feel, and act and we love her for that.
